உண்மை (Tamil)
Where does "உண்மை" come from?
The Tamil noun 'உண்மை', meaning 'truth, fact, reality' as well as 'faithfulness, honesty' and 'nature, essence', is formed from the root 'உள்' meaning 'to exist' combined with the suffix '-மை'[1]. The base root itself traces back to Proto-Dravidian '*uḷ'[2]. This formation is also reflected in cognates such as the Malayalam word 'ഉണ്മ'.
