ciąć (Polish)

Where does "ciąć" come from?

The Polish verb "ciąć" traces its roots back to the ancient Proto-Indo-European root "*temh₁-", which simply meant to cut. This term evolved through Proto-Balto-Slavic and Proto-Slavic "*tęti" before entering Old Polish and finally modern Polish. Over millennia, the word broadened from its original sense of physical hacking or chopping to encompass diverse meanings, including playing cards, moving with great speed, and speaking with blunt, cutting honesty.
