орәс (Eastern Khanty)
Where does "орәс" come from?
The Eastern Khanty word "корәс" originated from the Proto-Indo-Iranian word "ȷ́ráyas," which described an expanse or vastness. Through a borrowing process, it traveled into the Permic languages, eventually becoming the Komi-Zyrian "саридз", before being adopted into Khanty to denote the sea or ocean.
