poulie (French)

Where does "poulie" come from?

French poulie “pulley, block” is generally traced back through Old French to a Late Latin form often given as podia/pulia, referring to a pulley or similar lifting device. As it passed into French, the meaning stayed close to the practical world of hoisting and rigging, first the wheel-and-groove mechanism itself, and by extension the whole block used to raise loads.
