Where does "rickshaw" come from?

The word 'rickshaw' originates from the Middle Chinese term 'renliche', which literally translates to 'human-powered cart'. This concept was adopted into Japanese as 'jinrikisha', later shortened to 'rikisha', from which the English word was directly borrowed.
