lemon (English)

Where does "lemon" come from?

The word 'lemon' traveled a long path across languages, tracing its roots to ancient Sanskrit and Munda terminology for citrus fruits. It moved through Persian into Arabic, entered Old French as 'lymon', and eventually settled into its current English form through Middle English. As a curious sidenote, while the fruit has ancient origins, the slang term for explicit fanfiction is a modern invention, named after the erotic anime series Cream Lemon.
