Where does "climat" come from?

Climat is simply an older English spelling of climate. The word came into English through Old French climat, from Latin clima, which in turn came from Greek klima, originally meaning an “inclination” or “slope.” From that Greek idea of the earth’s slant, the meaning broadened to refer to a region defined by its weather, giving English climate and its obsolete variant climat.
