chiffchaff (English)
Where does "chiffchaff" come from?
The name of the chiffchaff is a classic example of onomatopoeia, derived directly from the bird's distinctive and repetitive two-note song. By mimicking this rhythmic call, observers coined the name to describe the small, yellowish-green warbler found across Europe and Asia.
