Where does "Macleod" come from?
The name Macleod primarily originated as an Anglicization of various surnames from Irish and Scottish Gaelic[1]. In Canada, however, historical records from Scottish missionaries show that the surname also developed as an Anglicization of the Cree term 'mahkiyok', meaning 'the big one'[1].
