স্বপ্ন (Bengali)

Where does "স্বপ্ন" come from?

The Bengali word 'স্বপ্ন' (svapna) is a learned borrowing from Sanskrit, where it originally shared the same root as the concept of sleep. It serves as a formal, literary term for 'dream' in the Bengali language. Interestingly, it exists alongside the synonym 'খোয়াব' (khōẇab), which is a doublet derived from a different linguistic tradition.
